We manage that entire process for families and individuals across the greater Chicagoland area — handling local collection, identity verification, documentation, and coordination with DDC, our AABB-accredited laboratory partner. How immigration DNA testing actually works
Most people expect DNA testing to work like a home kit — swab, mail, results. Immigration DNA testing is different. USCIS and immigration authorities require a documented chain of custody that proves the sample came from the right person, was collected by a neutral third party, and was handled correctly from collection to laboratory. A home kit cannot provide that. Here is how the process works:
Case review
We review your case type before anything is scheduled — visa petition, green card, embassy requirement, citizenship, or other. Each case has slightly different documentation needs and we confirm the right process for yours before you book.
Scheduling all parties
Immigration cases often involve multiple people — a petitioner in the U.S., a beneficiary overseas, or multiple family members. We coordinate local collection for all Chicagoland parties. For overseas parties, collection happens at a U.S. embassy or AABB-accredited facility in their country — we coordinate the U.S. side and advise on the overseas process.
Identity verification and collection
All parties present government-issued photo ID at collection. A certified collector performs a simple cheek swab. The process takes less than 10 minutes per person. Chain of custody documentation is completed at collection — every sample is sealed and labeled under observed conditions.
Laboratory analysis via DDC
All samples go to DDC — DNA Diagnostics Center — our AABB-accredited laboratory partner. DDC is one of the most widely recognized DNA laboratories for immigration cases. Results are typically ready in 2–3 business days after the laboratory receives all samples.
Results delivery
Results are delivered in a format accepted by USCIS and U.S. embassies. We confirm the correct delivery format — whether to you directly, your immigration attorney, or the relevant authority — before collection begins.
Why this is a multi-step coordinated process — not just a test
Immigration DNA cases involve more moving parts than any other type of DNA testing. Depending on your case:
- Multiple family members may need separate collection appointments coordinated to arrive at the lab together
- An overseas party may need their sample collected at a U.S. embassy or approved facility in their country — while the U.S. party collects locally
- Your immigration attorney may need results in a specific format or delivered to a specific address
- USCIS cases may require the laboratory to submit results directly rather than to the petitioner
- Rush processing may be needed to meet an immigration deadline or embassy appointment window
We manage all of that coordination. DDC handles the laboratory science. We handle everything else — scheduling, collection, documentation, and result delivery — so the process moves forward correctly the first time.
Common immigration cases we support
- Visa petitions requiring biological relationship proof (I-130 and similar)
- Green card applications — proving parent, child, or sibling relationships
- U.S. citizenship documentation
- Adoption cases with international components
- Embassy-requested DNA testing for overseas beneficiaries
- Cases where birth certificates or other documents are unavailable or insufficient
- Naturalization support documentation
What makes DDC results accepted by USCIS
USCIS requires DNA test results to come from an AABB-accredited laboratory. AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks) sets the accreditation standard for relationship DNA testing in the United States. Not every laboratory holds AABB accreditation — and results from non-accredited labs are not accepted by USCIS regardless of accuracy.
DDC — DNA Diagnostics Center — is AABB-accredited and is one of the most widely used laboratory partners for immigration DNA testing in the United States. Their results include the proper documentation and accreditation language that USCIS and U.S. embassies require.
Pricing
Immigration DNA testing pricing varies based on the number of parties being tested, the relationship type, whether overseas coordination is involved, and whether rush processing is needed. We confirm pricing for your specific case before you book — no surprises.
A mobile collection coordination fee may apply for at-home or workplace visits. For cases requiring collection at our certified partner facility in Rolling Meadows, no mobile fee applies.

Common questions about immigration DNA testing
Is this accepted by USCIS?
Yes. We use DDC — DNA Diagnostics Center — which is AABB-accredited. USCIS requires results from AABB-accredited laboratories. DDC results are accepted by USCIS and U.S. embassies worldwide. We confirm the correct documentation format for your specific authority before collection.
What if one party is outside the United States?
This is very common in immigration cases. The overseas party has their sample collected at the nearest U.S. embassy or an AABB-accredited facility in their country. We coordinate the Chicagoland collection. Your immigration attorney or the U.S. embassy typically coordinates the overseas collection. We advise on the full process when you call.
Do I need an immigration attorney to order this test?
No — you can order directly without an attorney. Many clients do. However if you have an active case with an attorney, we work with attorney-referred cases and deliver results in whatever format your attorney needs.
How long does the process take?
Local collection can usually be scheduled within 1–2 business days. Laboratory results are typically ready 2–3 business days after DDC receives all samples. If an overseas party is involved, their sample must arrive at DDC before processing begins — this affects the total timeline. Rush processing may be available for urgent cases — call to ask.
Can you come to my home for the collection?
Yes — for most immigration cases we coordinate mobile collection at your home or workplace within 30 miles of Rolling Meadows. The same chain-of-custody and identity verification requirements apply regardless of where collection happens. Your coordinator confirms the exact process for your case before your appointment.
What is the difference between this and a home DNA kit?
Home kits cannot be used for immigration purposes. USCIS requires chain-of-custody documentation proving the sample came from the correct person and was handled by a neutral third party. Home kits have no chain of custody. Only results from AABB-accredited laboratories with proper collection documentation are accepted.
