Prenatal Paternity Test — Informational (NIPP)

Find out who the father is before birth — no risk to you or your baby, from 10 weeks

You don't need to wait until after delivery to get an answer. The non-invasive prenatal paternity test — commonly called NIPP or NIPT paternity — determines who the father is using a simple blood draw from the mother and a cheek swab from the alleged father. No needles in the abdomen. No amniocentesis. No risk to the pregnancy.

* A mobile collection service fee applies to all at-home and on-site appointments. The fee varies based on your distance from our Rolling Meadows location and will be provided at the time of booking.

Best for: Private prenatal paternity answers before birth — personal peace of mind, not for court use. Available from 10 weeks gestational age, Monday through Thursday at our Rolling Meadows partner facility.

Collection time: mother's blood draw plus alleged father's cheek swab — both required; samples ship the day of the mother's blood draw.

How Does the NIPP Informational Test Work?

Most people have never heard of NIPP testing before they call us — and that's completely normal. Here's exactly what happens:

Step 1 — Mother's blood draw

A small blood sample is drawn from the mother at our Rolling Meadows partner facility. This is a standard blood draw — the same type used for routine lab work. The fetal DNA circulating in the mother's blood is what makes this test possible.

Step 2 — Father's cheek swab

The alleged father provides a simple buccal (cheek) swab. This is painless and takes less than a minute.

Step 3 — Sample is shipped for analysis

On the day of the blood draw, the samples are shipped to the forensic laboratory for analysis. The blood draw and the cheek swab do not need to happen on the same day — the buccal swab can be collected earlier and does not expire. However, the day the blood is drawn is the day the samples ship. They cannot be held.

Step 4 — Results in 5–7 business days

Results are delivered privately and securely. Please allow the full 5 to 7 business days — business days do not include weekends or holidays. Rush processing is available for an additional fee — call us to ask.

What You Need to Know Before Scheduling

  • Minimum pregnancy: 10 weeks gestational age or later — the test cannot be performed before 10 weeks
  • Available: Monday through Thursday only at our Rolling Meadows location
  • Does not have to be same day: The mother and alleged father do not need to come in together or on the same day. The buccal swab from the father can be collected at a separate visit and does not expire. The blood draw from the mother is the appointment that locks in the ship date.
  • Not available for twins: This test cannot be performed for twin or multiple pregnancies
  • Multiple alleged fathers: Additional charges apply if more than one alleged father is being tested — confirm pricing when you schedule
  • These results are private: Informational NIPP results are for personal knowledge only and are not formatted for court use. If you need court-admissible results, see our Legal NIPP option.

Need court-admissible results? Our Legal Prenatal Paternity Test (NIPP) starts at $1,599.

Frequently Asked Questions

How early can the NIPP informational test be done?

The informational NIPP requires at least 10 weeks of gestational age. It cannot be performed before 10 weeks. If you are not yet at 10 weeks, we recommend calling us to schedule in advance so everything is ready when you reach the minimum.

Does the mother and father have to come in together?

No — for the informational NIPP, the mother and the alleged father do not need to come in on the same day. The father's buccal (cheek) swab can be collected at a separate visit before the mother's blood draw. The buccal swab does not expire. However, the day the mother's blood is drawn is the day the samples are shipped — we cannot hold blood samples.

How long do results take?

Results are typically available in 5 to 7 business days after the samples are shipped to the laboratory. Business days do not include Saturdays, Sundays, or federal holidays. Rush processing is available for an additional fee — call (219) 315-0345 to ask about current turnaround options.

Can this test be done if I'm having twins?

No. The NIPP informational test cannot be performed for twin or multiple pregnancies. This applies to both the informational and legal versions of the test.

What if there is more than one alleged father?

Testing more than one alleged father is possible but additional charges apply. Please let us know when you call to schedule so we can confirm pricing and logistics before your appointment.

Are these results confidential?

Completely. Your results are delivered privately to you. We never share results with courts, employers, family members, or any third party. The informational NIPP is for personal knowledge only — results are not court-admissible.

What is the difference between informational and legal NIPP?

The informational NIPP is for private, personal knowledge — results are accurate and reliable but not formatted for court use. The legal NIPP follows strict chain-of-custody protocols with photo ID verification of all parties, making results court-admissible. The legal version is available all 7 days; the informational version is available Monday through Thursday only.

Can the test be rushed or expedited?

In certain cases, yes. Rush processing is available for an additional fee. Call (219) 315-0345 to ask about current expedited options and pricing.
